Custom Light Fixture

by Elsa L.

Lighting is an integral part of design. Dynamic lighting can transform a space, affecting the ambience and experience of a room as well as altering how we perceive its shape and size. At Innovative Building Energy Control (IBEC), our mission is to provide our clients with the best custom-built metal products for all their design needs – including lighting fixtures. No matter how big or small, simple or complex, IBEC is here to help you with your project’s metal fabrication needs.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The light fixture consists of 20 curved fins with metal rods attached to a central ring and suspended above each fin. Each metal rod is tipped with the symbol of a suit of cards. Five small globes are attached to center of each individual curved metal fin while five large globes float in the middle of the fixture. Each globe houses a light bulb.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS

Working with our sister company, GMEP Engineers, we created a detailed 3D model of every aspect of the fixture – from the globes to the CNC housing – to ensure the fixture’s structural integrity. IBEC fabricators took the challenge of creating curved fins in stride, proposing the use of a segmented [slotted] design for the fin’s center (Figure 3). Utilizing the 3D model, we guaranteed the even spacing and alignment of each globe. Combining the latest in laser-cutting technology and the ingenuity of our fabricators, the assembly came together seamlessly – just like the client ordered!
